Enoch Arnold Bennett was born 7 May 1867, Hanley was an English writer, best known as a novelist, and also worked in other fields such as journalism, propaganda and film. While Bennett was staying at the Savoy Hotel in London the chefs perfected an omelette incorporating smoked haddock, Parmesan cheese and cream, which pleased him so much that he insisted that it be prepared wherever he travelled.
