Charles Kingsley was born on the 12 June 1819 in Holne. He was an English priest of the Church of England and a university professor, historian and novelist. Charles Kingsley's novel Westward Ho! led to the founding of a town the same name (the only place name in England which contains an exclamation mark).
He died 23 January 1875 at Eversley in Hampshire
