Over Hall, dates back to 1732 and birthplace of Capt. Lawrence Oates who, in 1912 gave his life when he walked out into the snow on the Scott Antarctic Expedition so that the other members of the team would have a better chance of survival. There is a commemorative plaque in the 15th century St Mary's church to him.
