Known locally as The Firs this is a fine example of heaths which once stretched across Bedfordshire along the Greensand Ridge. Now one of Britain's most threatened habitats, it is brilliantly beautiful when the gorse and heather are in bloom. There is a small plantation of pines near the War Memorial which lead to the lime trees which form the Alameda walk.
