Alcuin of York or Ealhwine, nicknamed Albinus or Flaccus was born in the 730s or 740s in York. He was an English scholar, ecclesiastic, poet and teacher. He became advisor to Charlemagne’s Court.  In several churches of the Anglian Communion, Alcuin is celebrated on May 20, the first available day after the day of his death (as Dunstan is celebrated on May 19). Alcuin College, one of the colleges of the University of York, England, is named after him.
