Piel Castle, (EH), Piel Island, 3m SE of Barrow. Open any reasonable time. Access by ferry from Roa Island, on summer weekdays from 11.30am, subject to tides; dogs on leads only.
The ruins of a 14th century castle of the abbots of Furness, accessible by boat. There are remains of the massive keep and inner and outer baileys, defended by curtain walls and towers.
