Norham Castle, (EH), 6½m SW of Berwick-upon-Tweed on minor road off B6470. Open April to October, daily 10am-6pm. November to March, daily 10am-4pm. (closed 24/26 December & 1 January). Wheelchair access (excluding keep); suitable picnics; dogs on leads only. Set on a promontory in a curve of the River Tweed, this was one of the strongest of the border castles built around 1160.
